Can - Soundtracks

Can is a german so called “krautrock” group (somewhat silly term) with at times a japanese singer and at other times an american singer. Their songs are sometimes made up from hours of long jams that are cut together in what’s actual music that actual people can listen to and not only the psychedelic musicians playing it. ‘Soundtracks’ is the second album released, but not really their second album, and it consists of various movie soundtracks Can have made.
Sound bloody awful right? It isn’t. I had little experience with krautrock before this album. While I had an idea about what it was, I wasn’t really sure if I’d dig it. I dug it. I actually curse myself for being the chicken-shit I am and not buying the two other Can LPs I looked at in the store. I’ll go back and grab them later. After all, what’s not to like about a bunch of germans improvising fuzzed late 60’s-early 70’s monotone music while a crazy japanese improvises lyrics in something that resembles english, but has been described as ’stone age language’?
The vocals are really off the notes some time, there are obvious mistakes in there and the overall mix quality isn’t good. Who cares? Krautrock über alles!

I like this album too!
